Knapp Running this adapter on an Intel D945GCLF2 with a Cavalry 64GB SSD. When using 80 conductor IDE cables (ATA-100 on my board), I experienced severe data read issues. As soon as I switched to a UDMA-33 cable (40 conductor), the drive reads were fine. This adapter is rated at ATA-100/ATA-133, but don't you believe it! That said, even at UDMA-33, performance is acceptable, and I purposely went for the cheap adapter & SSD drive. BTW, the SSD drive performed marvelously on a SATA port - Windows Storage Server 2008 desktop loaded in just under 4 seconds after reboot and logon... =0 See all 12 customer reviews...

By Sean John If you search for slot-load blu-ray burner solutions for your desktop, there are very few options out there. Fortunately, I found DIGISTOR's solution. It's actually a Panasonic slot-load blu-ray burner designed for laptops, but the 5.25 casing and circuitry solution is all DIGISTOR. It work's like a charm when I replaced my aging DVD burner -- I transplanted that off an old system when I built my new Intel i7 quad core PC. Now my new system is sporting a super sleek slot-loading Blu-ray burner courtesy of DIGISTOR. Been using it for 4 months now, on a Windows 7 OS. No issues, no bad burns so far. Firstly, I bought it directly from hp.com and with the rebates I had, saved two hundred dollars. Secondly, I got free 2 day shipping and it arrived on time. The first thing I like about it is that the color is not the cheap gold look you see in the picture. I love the keyboards on HPs Entertainment and Special Edition notebooks. They do not feel cramped. There have been many cmplaints about the glare of the keyboards on this and the black and chrome models. So far, I have had no problems with the glare. Yes, I agree with the other reviewer, that the keys are hard to see in the dark. I would assume that would be the case for any laptop unless it is backlighted and this is not. It is light (wtihtout the battery), the speakers generate nice sound, it finds wireless networks instantly, and I actually like Vista. Just a note, read up on accessing the hidden administrator account if you are new to Vista. It has some serious security that will keep you from making even the most basic adjustments, including removing the bloatware. HP has done a wonderful job in including set up tutorials and online registration processes. The size is fantastic and screen is beautiful. I have not attached any peripherals up to it yet, so I cannot really comment on that. Cons: The battery life is short.. maybe an hour and a half even when it in the recommended power save mode. It has a lighted HP emblem on the back of the cover that uses resources. HP could have added the backlighted keyboard instead! The verdict is still out on there telephone tech service! I have had better experience with there chat support. The comp does sound like it is working overtime anytime I burn a CD and the vibration generating from drive is a bit too much for me to type at the same time. This is a great laptop, esp. if you can get it for under $[...]. It has only some bells and whistles, so if you want built in bluetooth and a blueray player, you will have to go up a model. Agrawal Performance is good, lookwise it is good and come with good features but only problem is with keyboard color...you can't see lables/alphabets on keyboard clearly (because of bronze color) specially during night time...I am good in keyboard typing so it's fine for me ..if you are not good in typing and can't type without looking into keyboard then little bit you need to strugle in finding keys in keyboard. Poor firmware and software; incompatible with some movies; some problems and solutions By Mark Colan [See updates below] Summary: At time of writing, it is cheaper to install this drive in a reasonably powerful HTPC than to buy a blu-ray disc player, assuming you have the HTPC already. As with any new technology, there are problems; these will be worked out as the technology matures. You should upgrade the firmware (CP56 recommended). The bundled software, PowerDVD, has limitations and problems which you can work around. NOTE: This drive is a READER only. It does not write any kind of disc. This is stated clearly in the product description and I am not complaining: it is much cheaper than a writer, and fine for my HTPC. THE DRIVE The drive itself works fine so far (one month). As a very standard optical drive, it is as easy to install as any DVD drive. SATA is required for this model, of course, but the advantages of SATA is one reason I bought this drive. In operation, the drive is reasonably quiet. Blu-ray content requires a reasonably powerful computer. My do-it-yourself HTPC is based on an Intel E6600, an Asus/Nvidia EN9600 video card, and Windows Vista SP1. These are adequate for quality playback on most discs, but I see a stutter occasionally (no more than once every 3 seconds) on Batman Begins, but not others. Blu-ray requires a video card and display or TV that supports HDCP. I was pleased to find that my 3-year-old Sharp Aquos LCD TV does support HDCP; I assume most or all modern LCD TVs and monitors do now. My drive came with firmware version CP54 installed. I had two serious problems that were corrected by upgrading to CP56 (visit lite-on's support page): 1. Windows Media Center complained that the region number was incorrect, so I was unable to play a conventional Region 1 (USA) DVD, even after setting Region 1 in the control panel. 2. Using PowerDVD 7.3, I was able to play blu-ray movies for awhile, but then one day, every time I tried, I got an Information box that told me that certain key parts of the program needed to be updated (sorry, I don't have the exact message). It gave me the opportunity to update, to which I said yes, and after a brief pause, it said it was successful. Pressing the Play button again put me through the same sequence; I was no longer able to play movies I had already played on the same equipment. Since both problems were corrected by upgrading the firmware, I recommend that all users upgrade to CP56 or newer by visiting lite-on's support page. THE BUNDLED SOFTWARE PowerDVD 7.3 BD, two channel edition, is included. It is capable of playing some blu-ray discs (Blade Runner, Stargate), and not others (Batman Begins). Some people complain that the two-channel edition does not provide surround sound. For sure it does not provide Dolby Digital 5.1, but I do hear surround effects on my system, at least for Blade Runner blu-ray edition. There are two possible explanations: it could be that the movie includes a two-channel soundtrack with Dolby Pro-Logic (an early surround technology that is inferior to Dolby Digital 5.1); it could be that my updated Accurus digital processor is simulating surround sound in the same way it expands stereo music into full surround. I don't know which, but the surround I heard on the two-channel edition sounds appropriately surrounded, and comments from others on a different forum report the same thing (suggesting that the Pro-Logic theory is correct). When I start Batman Begins (blu-ray edition), I get the piracy warning and the Warner logo, followed by an icon suggesting a disc read, then a black screen. For most movies, the black screen lasts a second or two, then the movie begins. For this movie, it stays black, and the application appears to be hung (can only terminate with Windows Task Manager). I worked around this problem by installing the trial (30-day) version of PowerDVD 8

It's a fairly new drive and rejects many Blu-Ray disks. Of course, Blu-Ray uses very obstinate copy protection, which interferes with the playing of disks. Expect this drive to reject a significant number of Blu-Ray offerings. Performance for CD/DVD is satisfactory, but get the firmware upgrade. The current version is 1.07. Am looking forward to 1.08, but Pioneer makes it very difficult to get firmware updates, so it won't be easy. I get mine at the European site. In the meantime, go with something else. Does not burn Blu-ray discs, SATA cable not included By keviny01 Pioneer BDC-2202 this is currently the cheapest Blu-ray drive, but it does not burn Blu-ray discs. It burns DVDs and CDs only, and reads Blu-ray discs, DVDs, and CDs. For some people that may be enough, since Blu-ray burning is still impractically slow and expensive. The drive requires serial ATA (SATA) interface, but does not come with a SATA cable, which you need to connect the drive to your motherboard. Pioneer's web site has a list of compatible motherboards for this drive, which you may want to see before buying the drive. Mine is on the list, but I still had to update its SATA drivers before I can burn successfully. Bundled software includes WinDVD 8 LE (which plays Blu-ray movie discs), Ulead VideoStudio 11 SE, and Ulead Burn.Now SE. I tested with seven Blu-ray movie discs -- "Flightplan," "Memento," "Apocalypto," "Descent," "Basic Instincts," "The Untouchables," and "Dog Day Afternoon" -- and this drive played them all successfully on PowerDVD Ultra. To play Blu-ray movies (and HD DVDs, for that matter), your PC needs to be fast enough and equipped with HDCP-compliant graphic card and monitor. I can burn CDs and single layer DVDs with no problem. But I cannot burn dual layer DVD+R ("Matrix" brand bought from shop4tech), not even with Nero Buring Rom. I'll have to try other brands of media. Danger, Will Robinson, Danger! By Jeffrey Blu-Ray playback on the PC is not yet mature. Before you burn your hard-earned cash on this product, make sure you meet ALL of the hardware requirements. And even if you do, like myself, it still may not work!! The software that comes with this product, WinDVD 8 LE is at best still-born. It will work on one of my older PCs, but incredibly not on my fastest machine. It will not even load on my Q6600 Asus P5Q Pro 3GB RAM setup. Go figure. Ultimately, you will need to buy WinDVD 9 Plus or some other application. I cannot understand why you even have to buy this kind of software. Twomey This is a great product I just recently burned my first blu ray disc and the result was a beautiful HD picture. This would have received five stars if it would have come with the right software package. I use this product on a Mac and it comes with Titanium Toast 8. Toast 8 allows you to burn to a blu ray disc but data only blu ray discs. As a professional videographer looking to make a HD video disc this was not what I intended. After some research and an upgrade to Toast 9, plus an additional plug-in for 9, I was able to burn a HD Video disc on Blu Ray. Once the software was correct it did as advertised. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Lacie Blu-Ray burner - WORKS! By Brian Wilson I just bought this external USB 2.0 Lacie Blu-Ray burner, and just burned my very first 25 GB data disk -> on a TDK BD-R 25 GB Blu-Ray blank. It seems to work! I used Roxio Create 8.2 XE (came with the Lacie Blu-Ray burner). Everything went very smoothly, but it did take A VERY VERY LONG TIME (as in several hours to burn 23 GB of data). The Roxio software reports "Target max burn speed 2.0x, Current burn speed: 0.97x" so basically I think it's burning the MONSTROUS 23 GB at 1x speed. I am not interested in ever burning a movie, so I did not test that. I'm only doing permanent write-once backups of large amounts of data (like my iTunes MP3 collection). The Roxio software came with TONS OF BLOATWARE, and as I said I'm only interested in the very most simple burning of data disks, so here are the steps I used to install the minimum: 1) Insert the Roxio install CD, run the "Setup" program. 2) Unselect **EVERYTHING** (yes, **EVERYTHING**) and continue with the install. It still installs 3 things! 3) In Add/Remove programs, remove the "Drag to Disc" burner functionality. RESULT -> You are left with one piece of bloatware "Backup MyPC 7" that I haven't figured out how to remove yet, and the one piece of software you want "Roxio Creator 8.2 XE". The Roxio Creator 8.2 XE is really super straight-forward and easy to use -> just drag directories onto the main window, then click the "Burn Disc" button. If you first insert a blank Blu-Ray disk, then it shows you have 25 GB to fill up (and shows a nice friendly bar showing how much you currently have selected). If instead you insert a DVD-R, it shows you have 4.7 GB to fill up, etc. Before burning it complained that some of my filenames had bad symbols in them ('#' is forbidden in the ISO filesystem it seems), and it listed the exact files for me, so I went in and fixed those up before burning.
