Customer Reviews more useful 56 of 59 people found the following review helpful. My brief review of the WU Welly I bought this ASUS SBW-06C1S-U, because I bought an ASUS notebook PC N61JV-X2 with Microsoft's Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I subscribe to Netflix, with the possibility of renting Blu- ray as an optional extra. I looked at several other competing manufacturers such as Buffalo Technology and Sony, but I decided this ASUS SBW-06C1S-U to get because the reputation of the brand. Before deciding to buy, make sure that your PC supports HDCP, a visit to the site and download and install Cyberlink Cyberlink BD & 3D Advisor tool. Run this tool to check if your PC is up to standard. The best of my knowledge, Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows 7 Home Premium and above support HDCP. This unit comes standard with an AC adapter and cable, the device itself, and a high-speed USB 2.0 mini cable. Simply plug the power cord, connect the USB cable 20, and insert a USB 2.0 port on your PC and let Windows automatically detect and install the appropriate drivers. Next, open the drawer and put the CD software Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 and install the software on your PC to play Blu-ray. The version included is obsolete. Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra 10 Mark II is the current version at time of writing. The cost is $ 79.99 USD for new customers. I use the ASUS SBW-06C1S-U to decrypt and extract the Blu-ray movies that I rent from Netflix using SlySoft AnyDVD HD. I record on a Western Digital Caviar Green 1.50 TB external hard disk drive housed in a Thermaltake BlacX drive dock connected via eSATA. It takes about 20 minutes to write a single layer of 25.00 GB Blu-Ray. If you connect the USB 2.0 port 0-port, which is directly connected to your PC, then it is not necessary to play wearing the extra power supply and cables, or write Blu-Ray movies or CDs, the new drive replaces an aging LG GSA-5163D firmware A105 Super - Multi Double Layer DVD and CD player and burner drives. I can, my CD, DVD-Video and Blu-ray collection to my hard drive with this rip ASUS SBW-06C1S-U without problems. I have checked the ASUS site for firmware or software updates and there is not at the time of this writing. As a side note,. If you DVD-Video and Blu-Ray rip movies in one ISO file so you can Video Lan VLC player to play movies at any time. There is no reason to buy the latest version of Cyberlink PowerDVD software or the included CD if you decrypt, rip and install play movies from your hard drive. I tested the disk encryption feature and it works as advertised. The algorithm is Advanced Encryption Standard Cryptologic to 128-bit strong encryption using SHA-1 hashing and encryption algorithm as a 'strong as to secure your data on optical disks. Overall this is an easy to install and use the product until you have verified that support HDCP and you have modern hardware and software to support this device. And "well built to withstand the occasional bump and stored in a bag for use during travel or playing Blu-ray disc burning. I recommend it to travelers who wish to add an optical drive or a netbook ultraportable that does not come with one . Addendum: I have since returned this product for a full refund because it uses two USB 2.0-ports to power the disk during mobile use. My ASUS N61Jv-X2 notebook are broadly distributed USB 2.0-ports so special Y-shaped USB Type A to Mini Dual Cable is compatible. 17 of 18 people found this review helpful. Great writer and a good price for SquallMX (crap) English: work as expected, is the software package right (but I recommend ImgBurn to burn a disc, and Total Media Theater to watch movies on DVD and Blu-Ray) The only drawback is the need for some two USB ports (no hub) to the right.
