You will not be disappointed with BC Smith BE12LU30 I bought the LG because it had the features I was looking for an external drive that can read / write speeds for CD and DVD of various kinds. I also wanted to print the disc label using LightScribe technology. There are many external Blu-ray drives to choose from and paraphrase what has just been released in October 2010, had not yet been widely reviewed by end users, but I decided to take a chance on it. I was not thrilled with the white and black exterior colors, but the device has a solid and well built feel to it. I like the blue read / write activity light on the front and the support that makes it possible to be placed in an upright position to minimize the desk space. You can connect the BE12 to your computer via USB 2.0 or eSATA port. I use the eSATA port to get the maximum 12X writing speed to USB port, the performance drop to 6X. ESATA port is capable of 3000 Mbps to 480 Mbps via USB, even though the capacity of the eSATA port is not fully exploited. A short cable supplied to an internal SATA port to eSATA bracket to convert to the back of the tower computer case. I did not try it out, but with the software, a USB Boost utility data rate has improved slightly over USB. I installed BE12 on my Lenovo Q700 HTPC with Windows 7 without any problems. Power2Go, PowerDVD, PowerProducer, MediaShow, and power backup LabelPrint: A software CD is a series of CyberLink applications included. They are not the latest versions, however. The software also includes USB booster and LG toolbox. The latter is to run, because it checks for and installs the latest LG firmware for the drive to be. It starts automatically when the PC is booted. You may want to disable it by running msconfig Startup tab and uncheck "LG Auto Firmware Update You can run it from the Start menu. The BE12LU30 is a LightScribe drive, but except for a small LightScribe logo on the back of the box, this function is nowhere mentioned in the documentation. You need the LightScribe system software to use this feature. It is available on the LightScribe site. Because this software is installed, the tool automatically LabelPrint sense, the availability of a LightScribe-enabled drive and connected to the means for a label of your design directly onto the front surface of the disk to print. You need to flip the disc in the tray to print the label, and apparently there is a sensor to detect the presence of a LightScribe disc in position to detect, so you do not make a mistake. Unfortunately, only CDs and DVDs are available at this time with the surface of LightScribe printing. I used BE12 a couple times so far, once to confer with LightScribe label write a DVD + R, and write once BD-R disc. I used the program in both cases and Power2Go burns were carried out smoothly. The album is pretty quiet too. Wrote 820MB data on DVD + R 16X 15 minutes and 15 minutes to print a LightScribe label. Then write 6.3 GB of data on a BD-R disc in 72 minutes with a maximum speed of 12X. Both records were written to perfection on the first attempt. I am very pleased with the apparent quality of BE12, their ability to read / write almost all CD, DVD and BD and excellent performance. I have no reservations in recommending this Blu-ray. 34 of 34 people found this review helpful. Reliable, fast and one of the best on the market by L. Cuevas first, compatible with: I must say that the Windows 7 compatible (see the Microsoft interoperability site) 32 & 64-bit, because I have already tested for one month in both the Laptop & desktop search, you really do not have to Install the included software (unless you do not
